What's YOUR solution?

Whether you realize it or not, you have become an expert in virtual education in a health science center setting. Over the past 15 months, the COVID-19 pandemic changed your academic experience as a medical student, graduate student, instructor or administrator in ways you never imagined.

As you know, the education sector is experiencing a significant shift in its engagement of technology to deliver or supplement learning outcomes. Emerging innovation at the interface of education and technology is often referred to as “EdTech.” By the year 2025, the market for this industry is expected to reach $404 billion.

Growth drivers for the EdTech market include: [1]

  • Collaborating with students, teachers and other stakeholders to reorient EdTech as a supplement to, not replacement for, traditional education
  • Novel strategies to increase learner engagement among young, educated, tech-savvy students (Think gamification, AI, VR, 3D printing and robotics)
  • Increased importance of reskilling, upskilling and soft skills in a rapidly evolving economy

Examples of innovative companies in this space include:

  • Nearpod - virtual fieldtrips
  • zSpace - immersive learning through AR and VR
  • 3DBear - 3D technologies for primary education through corporate training
  • Kahoot! - gamified trivia and quizzes
  • Quizlet - online learning tools and assessments

However, much of the industry’s focus has been on younger (particularly K-12) students. Postgraduate education—especially in the health science space—presents unique challenges and no one knows that better than YOU. With these challenges comes opportunity! – an opportunity that may have been overlooked by incumbent startups and innovators with focus elsewhere.

So, take the challenge: how would you innovate to improve the virtual learning experience of graduate-level students at a health science center?
